When can your child start ECCE?
ECCE is the free pre-school programme allowing up to two years of three free hours per day, for 38 weeks a year. Enter your child's date of birth to see their eligible years.
How the age band works
A child qualifies for a programme year if they are between 2 years 8 months and 5 years 6 months on 31 August of the year the programme begins. Most children get two years; children near the upper age limit may only fit one.
ECCE covers the session fee only; extras like meals or extended hours can still be charged. For funding towards full-time childcare costs, see the ECCE & NCS guide.
